A retrospective study conducted by University Hospital Bonn investigates the mid-term clinical and radiological outcomes of patient-specific implants in the treatment of complex Paprosky-type IIIa and IIIb acetabular defects.

Published in Arthroplasty (Springer Nature), the study reports significant funtional impovement in patients with complex acetabular defects and provides clinical and radiological data on patient-specific reconstruction in challenging cases.

Limb-salvage in periprosthetic infection: New study on knee arthrodesis

New evidence highlights the potential of two-stage modular intramedullary knee arthrodesis as a limb-salvage strategy when revision arthroplasty no longer feasible.

A recently published retrospective study in The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery assessed the outcomes of 30 patients with complex periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) after failed total knee arthroplasty. All patients underwent two-stage modular intramedullary knee arthrodesis using KAM-TITAN arthrodesis system by PETER BREHM.

The study reported sustained infection control at follow-up, early mobilisation, improvements in pain and functional outcomes, and stable fixation. No mechanical or implant-related complications were observed during the study period.

Acc. to the authors, two-stage modular intramedullary knee arthroplasty may offer a limb-salvage option for carefully selected patients who are unsuitable for revision arthroplasty, potentially avoiding above-knee amputation.

Key takeaway: The findings support the potential of two-stage modular intramedullary knee arthrodesis in the management of complex PJI and underline its relevance as a limb-salvage strategy in challenging revision cases.

Doors Open at PETER BREHM – Join Us for the “Türöffner-Tag ”!

How is an artificial joint made? And what goes on behind the doors at PETER BREHM?

On 3 October, we will be opening our doors to visitors of all ages! As an official participant in the “Türöffner-Tag” (“Open Door Day”) organised by “Die Sendung mit der Maus”, we invite young “Mouse” fans and their families to visit us from 8:30 a.m.

Together, we will take a look behind the scenes and discover what usually remains hidden. There will be plenty to explore:

Experiment and participate: Exciting experiments and hands-on activity stations for curious young explorers (children’s programme)
How, what, where? We demonstrate how an artificial joint is created through numerous individual production steps
Behind the scenes: Company tours for adults
Fun and games: A bouncy castle and mobile play area provide plenty of entertainment

Interest has been tremendous, and our children’s programme is already fully booked.

We are looking forward to a fantastic day, lots of curious questions, and, of course, countless eye-opening moments for visitors young and old.

We were delighted to welcome Viet Dung Nguyen, MD, PhD, Head of the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology at Viet Tiep Friendship Hai Phong Hospital; Mr. Anh Dung Nguyen, Managing Director; and Mr. Viet Toi Le, Orthopaedic Technician, from our partner Hanoi IEC in Vietnam.
Their visit offered a valuable opportunity for an interesting exchange of expertise and experience across national borders and cultures. During the hands-on workshop, we explored our solutions for hip and knee revision surgery, with a particular focus on their surgical applications and clinical outcomes.
The visit highlighted the value of sharing knowledge and experience with cooperation partners. Together, we share a common goal: advancing patient care through reliable product solutions, clinical expertise, and strong partnership.

PETER BREHM Workshop at the 28th AE Congress

Our workshop, „Caution: Defect! Revision strategy with intramedullary peg anchorage. The MRS-TITAN Maximum revision cup“, held at the anniversary congress of the AE – German Arthroplasty Society (18–19 June) in Munich, was very well received. Led by Prof. Dr Maximilian Rudert (Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg, König-Ludwig-Haus Orthopaedic Hospital), one of the leading experts in revision arthroplasty, the workshop addressed relevant clinical issues and practical solutions. Participants took away specific recommendations and tips for their clinical practice.

PETER BREHM Academy – 3rd D-A-CH Anatomy Workshop, Salzburg

Orthopaedic surgeons from Germany, Austria and Switzerland met on 8 and 9 June at the Centre for Anatomy and Cell Biology at Paracelsus Medical Private University to undergo intensive training in the use of our product solutions for hip revision surgery on human specimens. Led by experienced trainers Prof. Dr. med. Andreas C. Strauß (University Hospital Bonn) and Dr Florian Rausch (Zwettl Regional Hospital), the course impressed participants with its clear structure, strong practical focus and direct applicability to clinical practice.

Keep in Touch Initiatives

At PETER BREHM, we don’t want employees on parental leave to feel ‘cut off’ from the company. During their time-out, we maintain contact through our ‘Keep in Touch’ initiatives. How do we organize this? With some really good ideas! We made an employee survey regarding this current topic, took their suggestions on board and planned the initiatives.
So today, the parent-child breakfast took place for the first time, and it will be held regularly. With a nappy-changing table and a play area for the kids, we’re well equipped in our company. The young parents had a good time together with their collegues, shared experiences and so they remain part of the team. Our company’s sports and health programmes can also continue to be used. Invitations to company parties and open days at the company with their children strengthen the connection and sense of belonging.

WET-LAB COURSE & PETER BREHM Skills-Lab – BAR 2026

As part of the orthopaedic and trauma surgery forum “Bewegung am Rhein” (BAR), the WET-LAB COURSE took place at the Institute of Anatomy of the University of Bonn on 23 April, and the PETER BREHM Skills Lab using artificial bone took place on 24 April in Bonn. The instructor, PD Dr Max Jaenisch (University Hospital Bonn), reported on some case presentations and discussed possible solutions. This was an ideal opportunity to demonstrate how large acetabular defects can be optimally treated surgically using the MRS-TITAN Maximum revision cup – a compelling product solution for load-bearing acetabular reconstruction.
