The Cementless Primary Cup

The hemispheric PHOENIX-TITAN cup was developed for cementless implantation. The cup system is designed to facilitate anatomic reconstruction of the acetabulum to restore its original form. All versions are made of titanium (TiAl6V4). A press fit ensures initial fixation. The oversize of 0.6 mm that this requires is achieved with a coating of TiRC (titanium rough coating) applied in a layer about 300 µm thick on the entire outside surface of the hemispheric shell. This coating consists of pure titanium applied with the vacuum plasma spray technique (VPS). With a particle size of 100–150 µm, the surface roughness of the layer promotes bony ingrowth. This biologic fixation ensures secondary stability. Two or more fixation screws can be placed to further increase initial stability.

The implant is supplied in two versions.

Cementless Acetabular Cup with Floor Screw

  • Twelve sizes from 44 mm to 66 mm in diameter in two millimeter increments
  • Polyethylene insert (open and dysplastic models) with anti-torsion feature
  • Ceramic insert MC Biolox
  • Two drill holes for additional fixation of the cup

Cementless Acetabular Cup Without Floor Screw

  • Fourteen sizes from 44 mm to 70 mm in diameter in two millimeter increments
  • Polyethylene insert (open, snap-fit, and dysplastic models)
  • Nine drill holes for additional fixation of the acetabular cup
